Reading with Maju: An Inclusive Child Literacy Program for Identity and Equity

🌟 Main Project — #LendoComMaju: Literacy, identity, inclusion, and social transformation.

#LendoComMaju is an educational project created by Maria Julia Gonsalves Crecencio (Maju Crecencio) to help children learn to read through video lessons, interactive workbooks, guided reading, and inclusive educational content. There is a strong, intentional focus on representation, identity, racial equity, and cultivating a profound love for education.

It is more than a literacy scheme; it is a foundation for self-awareness, self-esteem, belonging, and future success.

✊🏾 Education and Authentic Representation: A Core Value

Maju is a Black girl, and this is not merely an aspect of her story—it is fundamental to the project’s purpose and impact.

#LendoComMaju intentionally works with Black representation, valuing:

  • Black children as protagonists.
  • Positive references of identity and belonging.
  • Images, words, and stories that reflect the real diversity of Brazil.
  • The crucial construction of self-esteem from early childhood.

Here, Black children see themselves, recognize themselves, and grow stronger. Furthermore, non-Black children learn, from an early age, to respect, coexist, and value diversity.

🎥 Video Lessons + 📘 Educational Workbooks: Our Pillars

✅ Educational Video Lessons

Maju teaches core literacy skills, reflections about the world, and text interpretation, always using a language that is:

  • Affectionate
  • Didactic
  • Playful
  • Inclusive
  • Creative

✅ Learning Workbooks (to color, write, and practice)

The workbooks are designed to build a foundation of **racial equity** from the very first years of literacy, through activities like:

  • Coloring and writing letters
  • Forming words and reading sentences
  • Working on identity, respect, and racial equity
  • Valuing Black figures and encouraging child protagonism

🧸 Meet MaJuquita — Our Official Mascot

  • ✔️ More fun
  • ✔️ More human
  • ✔️ More representative
  • ✔️ More real

📚 What do children learn with #LendoComMaju?

  • Reflections on identity, respect, and diversity

All in a light, accessible, inclusive, and educationally sound way.

💜 Why Does This Project Exist?

In Brazil, over 50% of children do not achieve full literacy by the end of the 2nd grade. #LendoComMaju was born as a direct and immediate response to this reality, combining:

Education • Art • Representation • Affection • Inclusion • Social Awareness

As Maju herself says:
“When a child learns to read, they learn how to exist in the world with more strength.”

👨‍👩‍👧 Who is #LendoComMaju for?

  • Children in the literacy phase
  • Families learning together
  • Educators and schools
  • Social projects and educational impact initiatives
  • Early childhood education programs

Here, all children are protagonists. Here, reading is also about self-recognition.

🌍 A Project with a Long-Term Vision

#LendoComMaju is designed to grow over many years, reaching:

  • Public and private schools
  • Teaching and training platforms
  • Educational events and lectures
  • Social impact initiatives

It was created to shape generations.
